Kumbhalgarh
Kumbhalgarh, a world heritage site is situated 84kms north west of Udaipur by road. The Kumbhalgarh fort, cradled in the Arravli ranges, is the most importan fort in the Mewar region after chittorgarh. The fort was built in the 15h century AD by Rana Kumbha. With a wall over 36 kms long, the fort has the 2nd largest wall in the world after the great wall of China with a widlth enough to take 8 horses abreast . It served the rulers of Mewar as a refuge in times of strife. The fort also served as refugee to the baby king Uday of Mewar. It is of immense sentimental significance for the people being the birth place of Mewar's legendary king Maharan Pratap.
The fort is self contained in all respect to with stand a protracted siege. Its defenses could be breached only once by the combined army of the Mughal and of Amber primarily for scarcity of drinking water. there is magnificent array of temples buit by the Mauryas of which the most picturesque place is the Badal Mahal or the palace of clouds. The fort also offers a superb birds eye view of the surroundings. Maharan Fateh Singh renovated the fort in the 19th century. The forts large compound has very interesting ruins and walk around it can be very educative.

Badal Mahal
Badal Mahal is the highest point in the Kumbhalgarh Fort. Famously known as the 'Palace of Clouds'. It is located at the top of the Kumbhalgarh Fort. Badal Mahal is a two storey palace. The whole building of the palace is parted into two interconnected mahals called the Mardana Mahal and the Zanana Mahal.Badal Mahal has the well-painted rooms which are painted with pastel-coloured murals, representing the period of the 19th century. Place rooms have turquoise, green and white colour schemes on its wall.
Neelkanth Mahadev Temple
Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a famous Shiva temple located near the Kumbhalgarh Fort. Built in 1458 AD, it has a six feet high Shivling which are made of stone and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Shiva is the only deity in that area. Legends says that King Rana Kumbha used to worship this deity. King was also beheaded by his own son when he was offering prayers at the shrine.

The Sound and Light show is performed at the Kumbalgarh Fort daily, starting at 18.45 hrs. Entry fee is Rs. 150 for Indians and Rs, 250 for foreigners.
Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary
Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary situated in the Rajsamand District of Rajasthan and surrounds the Kumbhalgarh fortress. The sanctuary spreads across the Aravalli Range, covering parts of Rajsamand, Udaipur, and Pali districts. It is in the region of 105 kilometers from Udaipur city and south of Jaipur. The city of Kumbhalgarh is very well-known for the Kumbhagarh Fort, the most outstanding Fort out of 84 forts, which stood during the Mewar kingdom of Rajasthan.
